During the day you will be introduced to the decorative Ply-Split Darning technique that was used by the Sarakatsani people of Macedonia up to the beginning of the 20th century. Following an introduction to the origins and traditional use of the bands, you will be shown some contemporary uses for the technique and the design possibilities will be discussed. You will make sample pieces using cotton or linen cords. The tutor will supply cords, yarn and darning needles, but do bring 3, 4 or 5mm gripfids if you have them. This course is suitable for both beginners and more advanced students. Ply-Split Braiding books by Julie Hedges and gripfids will be available to buy.
